What is a Hawaiian luau?
In its simplest form, a luau is a Hawaiian party where a group of people gather to feast and to celebrate an event. Today, a Hawaiian luau may celebrate a milestone such as a wedding, graduation, or birthday. However, in ancient times luaus were held in order to observe a victory in battle, a bountiful harvest, or the like.

To have a Hawaiian luau themed party, it is essential to have an open area, such as a backyard, because luau are celebrated under large tents in outdoor areas. Also a lei is a very common item in a luau. A lei is a necklace of flowers, ferns, or kukui nuts that men and women wear. At luau themed parties, the guests can make their own lei or they can be bought. At these types of parties entertainment is a must. The instruments used are typically the ukulele, guitar and sometimes drums. There are also often hula dancers.

Well, the good news is that you don’t have to go to the expense of travelling to Hawaii to enjoy a luau. We are your San Diego Luau specialists and have been catering these events for years and will bring the islands to you.
